The Latin Boxing World Champion will be defending his title against a local fighter next weekend, 12th December at the Sports Centre in Arrecife. Elkin José Ubardes, from Colombia, will be sparring against Lanzarote boxer, Alexis Callero, who is an ex-champion in Spain. Both competitors are fighting in the super middleweight category.

The bout is being organised by the World Boxing Council (WBC) and will consist of ten rounds of three minutes each. It is being billed as the most important fight of Alexis Callero’s career. The Lanzaroteño has fought 22 bouts in total, of which he has only lost two. There will also be four preliminary matches before the contest between Ubardes and Callero.

It promises to be an exciting match, not least because there are some 6,000 Colombian residents in Lanzarote, many of whom are sure to attend to cheer on their compatriot.    The event kicks off at 20.00 on Saturday 12th December in the covered pavilion in the Cuidad Deportiva Lanzarote (the main football stadium) on the Medular Rambla in Arrecife.
