Lanzarote Gets The Chop

10 March 2010 No Comment

The martial art of Karate will be the focus of a new event based in Lanzarote between 1st and 6th April. The First International Meeting of the Okinagawa Goju-Ryu Karatedo Kyoka (OGKK) will be taking place in Tinajo.
Participants will be welcomed by the Mayor of Tinajo and the programme for the event includes visits to Lanzarote’s key tourist attractions, such as Timanfaya National Park and the Jameos del Agua.
It is anticipated that 150 participants will attend, with aficionados of the art coming from Belgium, Finland, Russia, France, Japan and Lithuania as well as several Spaniards.
Lanzarote has been chosen as the ideal place in which to practice the art of Karate as it offers a perfect environment for relaxation between the classes.
This prestigious event will include classes given by Ryoichi Onaga Hnashi 9º Dan, an internationally renowned martial arts specialist.
He is currently the Vice President of the Okinagawa Goju-Ryu Karatedo Kyoka.
His presence in Lanzarote is thanks to the efforts of the Miya Ichi Dojo Sports Club based here on the island, who are the event’s organisers.
In addition, the Government of Lanzarote is also assisting with the event through the Island’s Sports Service along with the Department of Sports at the Ayuntamiento of Tinajo.
