UK Arrivals Up 14% in March
The number of British tourists visiting Lanzarote rose by 14% last month, versus March 2009. According to figures just released by ISTAC, the Canarian Institute of Statistics. However the overall rate of recovery of the islands tourist industry remains quite sluggish – up by just 3.2% during the first quarter of this year. And is still some way off reaching pre-crisis levels. Whilst other key markets such as Germany and Eire registered significant drops in visitor numbers .
According to the latest statistics just released by ISTAC the number of British tourists enjoying holidays in Lanzarote jumped by 14% last month. As the island welcomed a total of 75,407arrivals from the UK. However the figures also reveal that the overall rate of recovery on Lanzarote remains sluggish. With total foreign visitor numbers up by just 3.2% during the first quarter of this year.
The British market, Lanzarote´s largest, leads the way. But other key sectors such as Germany and Eire recorded poor results last month. With German visitor numbers down by 14% versus March 2009 and visitors from Eire declining by 24% for the same period.
