Lanzarote is currently sweltering in a mini heat wave as temperatures on the island climbed as high as 37 degrees Celsius yesterday. With the island capital of Arrecife setting the record as the hottest spot in the whole of the Canary Islands during Tuesday.
The current heat wave has been caused by a wave of hot air being carried across the islands by a calima and is expected to last well into Thursday. When a blast of colder air from the north will move the Saharan weather front away from the islands. On Gran Canaria temperatures climbed as high as 34 degrees and on Tenerife 32 degrees as the entire archiepelago was blanketed in warm air.
