Bars and Restaurants Fume at Smoking Ban

4 January 2011 One Comment

Spain´s tough new anti smoking laws were introduced on Sunday – prohibiting smokers from lighting up in any enclosed area or location close to schools and playgrounds.  And already local bar and restaurant owners are fuming at the impact the legislation is likely to have on their businesses.

The country had already passed a partial smoking ban back in 2006, but this has now been extended to include all enclosed areas such as bars and restaurants.  With even outdoor areas, such as restaurant terraces with more than two walls now a smoke free zone.  Hotels however have somehow escaped imposition of the full legislation and tourists will still be able to smoke in designated smoking rooms so long as the accommodations public areas remain unpolluted.

    Sir,

Firstly let me state that I am a non-smoker. But I find this total ban of cigarette smoking very unresonable. We can’t constantly have no toleranace. Whats wrong with a little give and take.

Many things annoy us, cyclist for one annoy me and many other drivers, but I don’t suppose they will be taken off the roads. In fact in Puerto del Carmen their road is as wide as the road for cars and buses and they don’t pay anything toward teh upkeep of said roads.

The newest thing now is drinking – what will happen after they have stopped everyone drinking – what will be next?
