UK Arrivals Up 14% in March

The number of British tourists visiting Lanzarote rose by 14% last month, versus March 2009. According to figures just released by ISTAC, the Canarian Institute of Statistics. However the overall rate of recovery of the islands tourist industry remains quite sluggish – up by just 3.2% during the first quarter of this year. And is still some way off reaching pre-crisis levels. Whilst other key markets such as Germany and Eire registered significant drops in visitor numbers .

Bermejo Launch Photo Contest

The Bodega of Bermejo wines has organized a photo competition to help promote the vineyard’s produce. The contest is open to amateur as well as professional photographers. Entries must be sent to the bodega by 20th May with as many as five photos per entrant permitted.
The theme of the competition is the world of Lanzarote wines and subject matter can range from images of the local landscape to pictures of the distinctively shaped bottles in which the product is sold. The prize for the winning entry will be €1000, …

Sunset Session At El Chupadero

Leading Canarian mixer DJ Nartak will be gracing the decks at El Chupadero this weekend at the popular bar restauarants first sunset session of the season.  Airing tracks from his latest release Globality Volume 2.  Which blends ambient and downbeat electronic grooves to create a seamless cocktail of chilled sounds.

New Market For Arrecife

Arrecife is soon to be home to a major new market.  As part of broader drive to attract more tourists to Lanzarote´s capital city.  The new weekly market in Arrecife will be held in the Parque Canarias (which is located next to the beach at Playa El Reducto) every Saturday morning from 9am onwards.  And will feature hundreds of stalls selling traditional foodstuffs, handicrafts and souvenirs.  As well as weekly entertainment, such as Canarian wrestling. The new market will be inaugurated on April 10th.

Run Rabbit Run

A state of emergency has been declared in Yaiza due to the dangerous number of rabbits that are currently running wild in this part of the island! As a result of this ‘plague’, the councillor for the Environment and Hunting, Placida Guerra, has issued a temporary hunting season to run until 1st June.
During this time, hunters will be able to capture live rabbits using dogs and also use ferrets to frighten them off. This measure is being taken to protect the agriculture that exists in the area, especially around the …

Tale Of Two Cities

The island capital of Arrecife is being twinned with the Brazilian coastal town of Recife. This follows a successful meeting at the travel trade fair FITUR in Madrid between the Councillor for Tourism in Arrecife, Angela Hernandez and the director for tourism in Pernambuco, the state in which Recife is situated.

More Aer Lingus and Jet2 Flights In 2010

Two airlines flying tourists to Lanzarote from the UK and Ireland intend to increase the number of airports they operate from during 2010.
Aer Lingus, which already offers eight weekly flights from the main Irish airports of Dublin, Belfast and Cork, plan to add a route from Shannon to Lanzarote this year. The news comes as a result of meetings held between the Councillor for Tourism, Luis Arraez and the airline’s management.
