Four of Lanzarote’s top chefs have got together to create a mouth watering special menu at the Museum of International and Contemporary Art this week. In order to mark International Museum Day, which falls today on May 18th.

Fancy brushing up your Spanish language skills? Intercambio is a new initiative designed to bring English and Spanish speakers together in a friendly and informal, non-classroom environment here on Lanzarote. And has grown rapidly in popularity since launching in early April.
Intercambio is the brainchild of Ian Hoban, who has successfully forged connections between both communities to create a vibrant and informal atmosphere for anyone keen to improve their Spanish or English. The volcanic ash cloud emanating from Iceland continues to cause problems for holidaymakers, as well as the island’s tourist industry. As Arrecife airport was briefly closed this morning along with other airports across the Canaries and Spain. Whilst occupancy levels in Lanzarote apartments and hotels nosedived in April to their lowest level so far this year. With ASOLAN – the islands hoteliers association – claiming that these figures were a direct consequence of cancellations and travel chaos caused by the Icelandic eruption.

The most recent figures to be compiled by the ‘Wines of Lanzarote’ Regulatory Council has found that during the first quarter of 2010 sales of local wines rose by almost 30% compared with sales during the same period of 2009.
In total 466,760 bottles of local wine have been purchased between January and March, whereas last year the amount was only 360, 508. As a result, if sales continue at this level, the Council hopes that 2010 will see sales reaching or surpassing the level recorded in 2008, which amounted to …

Victims of the growing spat brewing between the Ayuntamiento of Haria and the island´s governing body the Cabildo. A probable April Fools stunt initiated by Ryanair last week looks set to backfire on the budget airline. As their claims to be introducing a €1 toilet tax on flights to Lanzarote and all other routes has attracted a torrent of criticism from both the media and consumers alike.

Leading airlines Thomas Cook and Ryanair have become embroiled in a spat via the pages of Travel Weekly, the leading industry news website. With Thomas Cook claiming that the Spanish government and airport authority AENA are effectively subsiding Ryanair to fly to the Canaries – and that they may be forced to withdraw their flights to the islands in protest as a result.
Thomas Cook are claiming that the waiver of airport taxes and charges by the Spanish government last year has effectively handed Ryanair a subsidy worth €6.50 per passenger. …
