The number of British tourists visiting Lanzarote rose by over 14% last month, according to the latest figures just released by ISTAC, the Canarian Institute of Statistics. As a total of 66,154 tourists from the UK touched down at Arrecife airport, up from 57,849 arrivals for the same month last year.
Arrivals from Lanzarote´s other key markets also showed positive growth, with passenger numbers from Germany rising by 19.4% and from Ireland by 6.5%. Whilst the islands fourth largest market, Holland, enjoyed 12.8% rise with a total of 4328 tourist arrivals.

Daniela and Daniel are the most popular children’s names according to a survey carried out by the Canarian Institute of Statistics of babies born recently in the archipelago. The study relates to those born in 2009, the last year when complete figures for all seven islands were available.
Also often chosen were Pablo, Alejandro, Diego and Hugo for boys and Lucia, Carla, Sofia, Sara and Paula for girls. A particular preference for Daniela was noted in Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Tenerife. Whilst Hugo was selected ahead of the other boys …
The number of British tourists taking holidays in Lanzarote rose by 32% last month. According to data recently released by ISTAC, the Canarian Institute of Statistics. Whilst the number of visitors from the islands second and third largest markets of Germany and Eire also soared. Up by 62% and 46% respectively. As overall foreign tourism climbed last month by 57% versus April 2010. Aided largely by the recent crisis in the Middle East and the fact that Easter fell in April this year.

The latest figures published by in a report by the Beer Sector in Spain reveals that consumption of the amber nectar has risen by 2.9% in the Canary Islands during 2010.
However, the Canaries are not the highest consumers of beer, as this award goes to Andalucia and southern Extramadura, where 7.5 million hectolitres (100 litres) were sold last year.
In contrast to this slight increase in consumption in the Canaries, the overall national level of beer drinking fell by 0.5% in comparison with figures for 2009, despite Spain winning the World Cup in 2010.
