The avant garde Spanish costume artist Esteban Cedres will be heading up a scenic arts group this Friday 23rd July in Arrecife. Greenpeace voiced its concerns about the increase in urbanization on Lanzarote yesterday in the report “Destruction at all costs”, which analyses developments of the entire Spanish coastline.
The report claims that Lanzarote has seen an increase in constructed areas of 60% over the last seventeen years. However, Lanzarote is by no means the island that has seen the highest level of development, as Fuerteventura has seen its built-up areas increase by 159%. One of the central areas of Costa Teguise is about to undergo a major face-lift, with nearly half a million euros earmarked to improve how the Avenida El Jablillo looks. A meeting on Friday 9th July saw the approval of this project by the Canarian councilor for Tourism, Rita Martin.

The Islote de Frances in Arrecife will be studied by the Swiss architectural team of Herzog and De Meuron, as the first step towards creating an iconic landmark for the capital. At present, this area of the city is home to several derelict warehouses and occupies one of the prime waterfront locations that has yet to be redeveloped.
Jacques Herzog will make a preliminary study of the site next Monday, accompanied by the site’s owner, Jaime Cortezo, various architects from Gran Canaria and a representative from the Arrecife mayor’s office.
