Touts Out In Puerto del Carmen

PR´s touting for trade on the pavements in Puerto del Carmen may soon become a thing of the past.  As the Ayuntamiento of Tias aims to take action over the ‘aggressive’ promotion of bars and clubs by individuals on the street.
The Atlantico Commercial Centre in the heart of the strip, on the Avenida de las Playas, has long been GCHQ for the PR´s.  And the mayor of Tias, José Juan Cruz Saavedra, indicated yesterday that the local police will be initiating action against those establishments which choose to promote themselves …

Ryanair Launch 7 Euro Flights From Milan

The budget flight operator Ryanair is launching a new route connecting Lanzarote with the Italian city of Milan. From April 13th the new flights will be operating on Wednesday and Sunday every week.  And to mark the launch of this new route Ryanair are selling off 500,000 seats at just 7 euros each.
It is hoped this additional service between the volcanic island and Italy will help to boost the number of Italian visitors travelling to Lanzarote this summer. Ryanair has already developed direct connections between Bologna and Venice and Lanzarote.

Fight Breaks Out on Ryanair Flight

Over 100 passengers were thrown off a Ryanair flight from Lanzarote to Belgium over the weekend as an argument over an excess baggage fee escalated into a full blown scuffle.
The fight erupted on a Ryanair flight service to Charleroi as a passenger travelling with a large band of Belgian students was told that he would have to pay an additional oversize bag fee or leave the plane.  The passenger refused and as a fight broke out stewards called for police assistance.  Resulting in the ejection of 102 of the 168 …

‘Unrest in Egypt benefits tourism in the Canaries.’

Tourism in the Canary Islands is expected to benefit from the current unrest sweeping across Tunisia and Egypt.  According to Ruperto Donat, head of the Spanish Association of Tour Operators (AVAME).  As holidaymakers switch their bookings from destinations such as Sharm El Sheikh to islands such as Lanzarote and Tenerife instead.

Island of Fire Home to 35,000 Smokers

Despite the recent introduction of strict new anti smoking laws Lanzarote is still home to over 35,000 smokers, representing nearly 30% of the population of just over 140,000 residents.  According to data just released by ISTAC, the Canarian Institute of Statistics. A figure that has in fact increased in relative terms over the last five years.
