In a statement Jet2 claim that “The new seats mean less fuel is needed, helping the airline keep its fares as low as possible”. With each of their Boeing 757´s expected to experience a reduction in weight of around 500 kilos per plane. With Managing Director Ian Doubtfire claiming that this will help benefit the environment. Whilst ignoring the fact that their services will still generate substantial carbon emissions.

Aer Lingus, which already offers eight weekly flights from the main Irish airports of Dublin, Belfast and Cork, plan to add a route from Shannon to Lanzarote this year. The news comes as a result of meetings held between the Councillor for Tourism, Luis Arraez and the airline’s management. It also comes on the back of Lanzarote being voted for the eighth year running the number one destination for sun and sea by the Irish Travel Trade organisation.

Jet2, which already provides flights five times a week to Lanzarote from Edinburgh and Blackpool, is planning to add the East Midlands to its schedule. This will increase the number of seats from northern England offered by the low cost airline by 53%.

Low cost British based airline Jet2 has just expanded their loyalty scheme – MyJet2 – to encompass Spain and the Canaries. With customers able to earn points on flights and other services booked. Which can then be redeemed against future bookings.

Every pound or euro spent on a booking of any sort earns a point. Jet2.com destinations are split into two zones, with the Canary Islands in zone two. Customers who accumulate 12,000 points can then claim a one-way flight from the Canary Islands to the UK. Sign up at the Jet2 website before the end of November and receive 100 bonus points free!

Philip Meeson, CEO of Jet2.com commented: “At Jet2.com we are utterly committed to giving our British customers in the UK and now in Spain the best deals and offers and this loyalty programme is another way of rewarding our customers. Put simply, the more flights and other services you buy from Jet2.com online, the more points will be credited to your myJet2 account. These points can then be redeemed against our flights, so it’s a real win-win for our customers.”

Meanwhile interisland airline Binter Canaries are offering some fantastically cheap flight deals for residents. Charging just €10.85 each way for flights from Lanzarote to the other Canary Islands. Tickets must be booked by the 22nd of November 2009 and the flights taken between the 1st of December 2009 and the 28th February 2010.
